Alia Wilson, Jade Jacobs and their Prince George Gymnastics Club teammates were in top form at the Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational meet, held last weekend in Langley.

Wilson competed in the Junior Olympic Level 9 (2002) division and claimed the all-around title. In her individual events, she earned a gold medal on the uneven bars, a silver on the vault, placed fifth on the balance beam and was sixth on the floor exercise.

Jacobs, meanwhile, was one of 20 athletes in the Junior Olympic Level 7 (2003) category. In that large group, she placed fourth in the all-around standings. Individually, she gave a golden performance on the floor, won a bronze medal on the bars and placed 10th on the vault.

The other P.G. gymnasts at the meet also posted strong results.

In Level 7 (2002), Dallyn Long ended up seventh all-around. Her best result came on the vault, where she was the silver-medalist. Long also finished fourth on the balance beam, sixth on the floor and 10th on the bars.

Also in Level 7 (1998-2001), Samantha Thomas had a fifth-place showing on the beam and was sixth on bars. Long and Thomas were first-time competitors in Level 7.

In Level 8 (1999-2002), Rhiana Palfy found herself in one of the toughest categories but managed a 10th all-around finish. She was sixth on the balance beam and 10th on the vault.

A lone boy - Lane Oke - represented the Prince George club at the meet. Oke was up against some of the most skilled gymnasts in the province and battled his way to a 10th all-around finish. Individually, he was seventh on the pommel horse, ninth on the high bar and 10th on the rings.

Jacobs, Long, Oke and Sydney Hamilton will be in Penticton at the end of the month for the B.C. Winter Games.

This weekend, several local gymnasts will compete at the zone championships in Quesnel.
