Cats off to 2-2 start heading into third weekend of WHL season

The Prince George Cougars take a 2-2-0-0 record on the road this weekend to face the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre on Friday night, then take on the Everett Silvertips at Angel of the Winds Arena on Saturday night.

The Cougars are coming  off a 5-1 loss last Saturday at home to the Kelowna Rockets, after winning the first game of the weekend series 6-3 on Friday.

Vancouver (1-2-0-1) suffered a road loss to the Thunderbirds in Seattle in their most recent game on Saturday. Everett (3-0-0-0) leads the Western Conference standings.

The Cats will return home next week for two contests, entertaining a pair of Eastern Conference clubs including the Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg ICE.

Cougars vs. Wheat Kings – October 12, 7 p.m.

The Cougars take on the Wheat Kings for the one and only time this season, and it will feature potentially three first round picks in the 2023 NHL Draft. Those individuals include Riley Heidt, Koehn Ziemmer, and Wheat Kings forward Nate Danielson. Danielson has been recently appointed captain for Brandon, and had a terrific 2021-22 season, recording 57 points in 53 games (23G-34A).

The Wednesday tilt with the Wheat Kings is Small Business Night presented by CIBC. Experience a variety of local small businesses as you walk around the concourse throughout the game!

Cougars vs. Winnipeg ICE – Saturday, Oct. 15, 6 p.m.– MINOR SPORTS NIGHT

Prince George wraps up the brief two-game home-stand against the talented Winnipeg ICE. The ICE bring a plethora of talent to CN Centre, including first round NHL draft picks Conor Geekie (Arizona) and Matthew Savoie (Buffalo). Winnipeg also carries projected first round pick Zach Benson who enters his first year of draft eligibility.

It is a big night at CN Centre as we will be celebrating Minor Sports Night. Hear from some of the best local athletes talk about their time spent in Prince George minor sports. The list includes Jared Young (first baseman, Chicago Cubs) and Meryeta O’Dine (Olympic bronze medalist – snowboardcross).

The Cougars will also give away a Vancouver Canucks Getaway Package. Purchase a ticket to the game, and you will receive an entry into the draw to win four club seats to a Canucks game of your choice with hotel and flights and swag included. If you wear any jersey to the game, you will receive a second entry into the draw.
