P.G. athletes set personal bests in Nanaimo

Seven athletes from the Prince George Track and Field Club showed they can run and jump with the province's best track and field athletes during a meet in Nanaimo on the weekend. Kendel Rogers set a personal best of 1.

Seven athletes from the Prince George Track and Field Club showed they can run and jump with the province's best track and field athletes during a meet in Nanaimo on the weekend.

Kendel Rogers set a personal best of 1.95 metres in the girls pole vault at the B.C. junior development track and field championship for athletes between nine and 13 years old.

The 13-year-old also placed fifth in triple jump, sixth in high jump and eighth in the 300m dash.

Other strong performances came from Amanda Heinz as the 13-year-old was fourth in the hammer throw, while 12-yearold Taya Mueller of Quesnel finished fourth in the girls 600m run. Heinz was also fifth in javelin, seventh in shot put and eighth in discus. Makenna MacWhinnie was also fourth in the 600m run in her age group. The nine-year-old also took fifth in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles and sixth in long jump.

Personal bests were set by 12-year-old Rachel Kidd in the 100m final where she finished seventh and nine-year-old Olivia Masich by placing seventh in shot put.

This weekend about 20 14-andover athletes from the PGTFC will head to Kamloops for the B.C. Track and Field championship jamboree.
