If Patti Knezevic and her Prince George team go on to win their second consecutive Scotties B.C. women's curling championship, they won't have a perfect record.
Sarah Wark and her crew from Victoria made sure of that when they beat the defending champions 9-6 Wednesday morning in Coquitlam.
After blanking the first end, Wark scored three in the second end, stole two in the third and put up two more in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. Knezevic came back with two in the sixth and eighth ends and pulled to within three with a steal in the ninth, but that's as close as it got.
The Prince George Golf and Curling Club skip defeated Wark 5-3 a year ago in the Scotties final in Maple Ridge to capture her first B.C. women's title.
Knezevic and her team of third Kristen Pilote, second Jen Rusnell and Rhonda Camozzi were back on the ice Wednesday night at Coquitlam Curling Club against Karla Thompson of Kamloops, losing 9-7.
Knezevic opened the eight-team tournament Tuesday with a 5-4 win over Kesa Van Osch of Nanaimo.
In other Draw 2 results Wednesday morning, Van Osch beat Amy Gibson of New Westminster 7-5, former Canadian and world champion Kelly Scott of Kelowna improved to 2-0 with an 8-2 win over Amanda Russett of Kamloops, while Thompson of Kamloops defeated Diane Gushulak of New Westmiinster 9-6.
Action resumes today at 11 a.m. when Knezevic faces Russett. In other Draw 4 matchups, Gibson plays Scott., Wark meets Gushulak and Thompson takes on Van Osch.
In the late draw tonight, Knezevic is matched with Gushulak.
Two draws are scheduled Friday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The semifinal round will be played Sunday starting at 11 a.m. and the final will follow at 4 p.m.
The winner will advance to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts three-team pre-qualifying round against the champions of Nunavut and Northwest Territories, Feb. 18-20 in Grande Prairie, Alta.
The Scotties tournament is set for Feb. 20-28, also in Grande Prairie.
