Bob Pegues is the president's choice.
The longtime coach of the Inner City Boxing Club in Prince George has been selected a winner of Sport BC's Presidents' Award.
The award recognizes Pegues's career achievements with the Inner City club, especially working with local boxers Kenny Lally and Jag Seehra in their efforts to reach provincial, national and international success.
In a 10-year period ending in 2013, more than 70 per cent of the medals B.C. boxers won at national championships were coached by Pegues at the Inner City club. Since 2013, Pegues has served as head coach of the B.C. provincial team, which over that time period trails only Quebec and Ontario in the national medal count.
Two B.C. boxers -- Lally and Jacob Varga of Victoria -- have qualified for Canada's team at the Pan Am Games in Toronto in July.
Pegues will receive his award as part of the awards gala banquet, March 12 at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel in Vancouver.
