After seven years, the itch was finally scratched for the Prince George Freighliner peewee tier 2 Cougars, who are heading to the provincial championship after a weekend sweep in Williams Lake.

No peewee tier 2 Cougars team has reached the provincial hockey championship since 2006.

The Cougars achieved the goal by earning two victories against the Williams Lake Timberwolves, starting with a 7-4 win Friday night where the Prince George side received two goals from Devin Krahn and singles from Brandon Dent, Johvan Janjua, Corey Cunningham, Brayden Stafford and Alex Nimmo.

In the second game, the Cougars were dominant blanking the T-wolves 5-0. Nimmo, Conor McLaughlin and Cunningham staked the Cougars to a 3-0 advantage after the first period and the visitors cruised through the final 40 minutes. Nimmo added his second goal of the game while Brandon Dent had the final goal for Prince George.

The peewee tier 2 provincial championship is March 17-21 in Salmon Arm.
