Opening weekend was sweet for the Prince George Viking Construction peewee Tier 1 Cougars as they recorded a pair of home wins against the Vernon Vipers.
The Cougars (2-0) knocked off the Vipers (0-2) by a 5-2 margin Sunday at the Coliseum after opening the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association season Saturday with a 7-3 win.
Corey Cunningham had two goals and an assist in Saturday's victory, while Devin Krahn notched the game-winning goal early in the third period. Krahn added another goal and an assist to his season totals on Sunday giving him four points.
Other goal scorers for the Cougars in Saturday's win were Chase Schurack, Brandon Dent, Brendan Moseley and Elijah Goyer. Jacob Gendron chipped in with three assists, while James Lalikeas, Colton Kitchen and Conor McLaughlin each recorded one helper. Brendan Forman picked up the win in the Cougars' net.
Sunday it was Moseley leading the way offensively with a goal and assist. Dent also had his second goal of the season. Cougars' goalie Gaige Ridland earned the win. The other Cougars goals came from defencemen Maz Arnold and Jacob Gendron.
The Cougars are coached by Ryan Arnold with assistants Shawn Gendron and Rob Crobar. Shawn McLaughlin is the team manager and Ed Dent is the trainer.
