Peewee Cougars miss out on finals in Kamloops

The Prince George Vikings Construction Peewee Cougars finished with a 3-2 record in Kamloops on the weekend at the Darcy Robinson Memorial peewee tournament, but missed out on a berth in the final.

In their final game the Cougars were edged 4-3 by the host Kamloops Blazers on Sunday, denying them a chance to go for gold. Brandon Dent, Devin Krahn and Brendan Moseley were the goal scorers for the Cougars. Krahn and Moseley also picked up an assist. Brendan Foreman took the loss in the Cats' net.

On Saturday, the Cougars split their two games, securing a 3-1 win over the Vernon Vipers on a pair of goals from Chase Schurack and a single from Elijah Goyer. Gaige Ridland missed earning a shutout in the Cougars' net by 72 seconds. Earlier in the day, the Cougars suffered their first loss of the tournament, a 3-1 setback to a Grande Prairie tier 1 team. Schurack had the only goal for the Prince George side. Foreman was in net for the Cougars.

On Friday, the Cougars earned wins against the Chilliwack Bruins (6-2) after doubling up the St. Albert (Alberta) Saints 6-3.

In the win against the Bruins, Schurack had a three-goal performance, while Krahn, Goyer and James Lalikeas tallied singles. Six different players contributed goals in the win over St. Albert. Corey Cunningham had a goal and three helpers and Schurack notched the game winner when the Cougars were shorthanded. Foreman earned the win.

Cougars roar at bantam tournament

Success was the word for the Prince George Integris Credit Union bantam tier 2 Cougars as they finished first at the Quesnel Bantam Rep 10-team tournament on the weekend.

The Cougars posted a 5-0 record. Other teams in the tournament were from Quesnel, Williams Lake, Vanderhoof, Dawson Creek, Terrace, Smithers, Kelowna, Chilliwack and Nanaimo.

The Cougars beat Vanderhoof (7-1), Terrace (4-2), Williams Lake (8-5) during the round robin. In the semifinal the Cougars beat Dawson Creek 6-5 and Seth Lapre shutout Williams Lake in the final 4-0.

Dean Whitecomb, Matthias Urbanski and Cole Westle-Beacom were the points leaders for the Cougars at the tournament, while Lapre and Aaron Jakubowski were both solid in the team's net.

Other players on the bantam Cougars are: Mason Roche, Brennan Malgunas, Austin Guignard, Kyle Boshier, Jayce Schweizer, Craig MacDonald, Brady Miller, Ryan Whitehead, Alexander Nimmo, Cole Basnett, Cameron Prouse, Justin Parker and Dawson Brieson.

The next action for the Cougars are league games against Williams Lake at the Kin 2 arena, Nov. 2 (6:15 p.m.) and Nov. 3 (10 a.m.). The next tournament is Nov. 15-17 in Salmon Arm.

Tier 3 Peewee Cougars split weekend games

The Prince George Peewee tier 3 Cougars fell 2-1 on Saturday night but rebounded with a 6-3 win Sunday against 100 Mile House.

Next up for the Cougars is Nov. 2 and 3 when they host Quesnel in a pair of league games.
