The Scotiabank peewee female Cougars fell one victory short of reaching the final at a weekend minor hockey tournament in Kamloops.
In a Sunday semifinal, the Cougars lost 2-0 to the Kelowna Junior Rockets. In the game, the Rockets got an insurance marker with about three minutes left on the clock.
The Cats started the tournament with a 1-1 tie against Kelowna. Next, the Cougars blasted the Kootenay Wildcats 7-1 and then dumped the Kamloops Mystix 5-1. In their final round-robin game, the Cougars fell 6-2 to the Tri-Cities Predators.
During the tournament, Braxtyn Shawara was the most dangerous shooter for Prince George. In the five games, she connected for four goals.
Hannah Cockle, Mishayla Christensen, Malena Pilipow and Katy Wendling -- all with two goals -- added balance to the Scotiabank attack. Christy King, Emmelin Leclerc and Jessica Herdman also scored goals.
Other members of the team are goaltender Colby Wilson, Justine Guillet, Miranda Lutes, Rylei Blacker, Aspen Vassallo, Jadyn Hickey, Olivia Delisle and Camryn Scully.
The Cougars will play their next tournament Jan. 10-12 on home ice.
