In a dogfight for the bronze medal, the prize went to the Cats.

The Viking Construction Cougars skated to third place at the B.C. Hockey peewee Tier 1 provincial championship tournament, which concluded last week in Nanaimo. At the six-team gathering, the Cougars played to a 1-2-2 record. Their lone win - an 8-1 victory against the host team in their last game - clinched them the medal by the slimmest of margins. The Cats finished with four points, while Victoria and Kelowna both had three and Nanaimo ended with two.

Abbotsford, with a 5-2 victory against the North Shore Winter Club in the championship game, grabbed provincial gold.

In the Cougars' other games, they lost 8-1 to Abbotsford, tied Kelowna 7-7, fell 9-1 against North Shore and deadlocked 2-2 with Victoria.

The last time a Prince George team had a top-three finish at the peewee Tier 1 provincials was 2008.
