The 2015 Prince George Canada Winter Games has teamed up with its provincial counterpart to share resources.
The winter games committee and the B.C. Games Society have formed a partnership that will see both organizations share resources and information about staging a large sporting event, allow for cross-promotion in advertising and reduce costs by sharing sport infrastructure and equipment.
"This partnership makes perfect sense," said Stuart Ballantyne, CEO of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. "Already the 2015 Canada Winter Games and the B.C. Games share a common goal to promote amateur sport and support young athletes in their quest to be Canada's next great champions. So for us to share institutional knowledge and resources - both human and physical - is the right thing to do."
British Columbia has staged either a provincial winter or summer games since 1978 in 38 different communities, involving more than 350,000 participants and volunteers.
"It is an honour to build this partnership and share resources as a way to better the Prince George 2015 experience for young Canadians," said Kelly Mann, CEO of the B.C. Games Society. "Collaborating with the 2015 staff and volunteers will surely pay dividends to future B.C. Games as well."
About half of the young athletes who take part in the B.C. Games will go on to represent Team B.C. at the Canada Games.
