Pair of Spruce Kings accept NCAA hockey scholarships

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Luca Primerano and Ty Gagno will be playing south of the border in the next step of their hockey careers.

Primerano has announced his commitment to the University of New Hampshire, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 hockey program. The Wildcats play in the Hockey East Conference and are based out of Durham, New Hampshire.

Former Spruce Kings playing in this conference include Nick Poisson (Providence College), Ben Poisson (the University of Maine), Ben Brar and Corey Cunningham (Merrimack College), and Nick Rheaume  (the University of Massachusetts Lowell).

In Primerano’s first season with the Spruce Kings, the North Vancouver product has tallied 16 points (4 goals, 12 assists) in 22 games. Primerano sits tied for the team lead in assists and ranks ninth in BCHL rookie scoring.

Gagno will be heading to the College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The Holy Cross Crusaders men’s ice hockey team also play Division 1 NCAA hockey. The Crusaders are a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Current Spruce King Colton Cameron has already signed to play for Bentley University in this conference while former King Dustin Manz is already there, playing for American International College.

In 12 games this season, the 19-year-old Gagno has scored 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists). Last season, Gagno played in 52 games and put up 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) for the Spruce Kings. Ahead of his second season with the Spruce Kings, Gagno was named an assistant captain.
