PacificSport feeling a cash crunch

PacificSport's Northern B.C. branch is in no danger of closing its doors. However, general manager Kristen Harrott admitted the local organization is facing monetary challenges. "We are not secure right now, financially," Harrott told The Citizen.

PacificSport's Northern B.C. branch is in no danger of closing its doors. However, general manager Kristen Harrott admitted the local organization is facing monetary challenges.

"We are not secure right now, financially," Harrott told The Citizen.

One PacificSport employee who was working half-time hours was handed a layoff notice and worked her final day on Wednesday. Left to handle the workload are Harrott, a different part-timer and one contract worker.

PacificSport Northern B.C. receives its funding from the federal and provincial governments, as well as from provincial gaming grants. The current uncertainty is tied to the fact that the branch's three-year gaming grant has expired. And, if new cash is coming down the pipe, it won't be flowing any time soon.
