Jujhar Khaira is coming back to Prince George in October after the NHL's Edmonton Oilers reassigned him to the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.

The Oilers assigned the former Prince George Spruce Kings forward to the Silvertips on Sunday, after Khaira picked up an assist in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The game was the only NHL preseason game Khaira played in for the Oilers, other than in the Canucks' rookie tournament in Penticton.

The Silvertips and Khaira will be in Prince George on Oct. 11-12 (Friday-Saturday) to play the Prince George Cougars at CN Centre. It's the only regular season trip to Prince George this season for the Silvertips.

Khaira opted to honour his scholarship at Michigan Tech University rather than report to Everett last season. As a freshman with the NCAA Division 1 school, the six-foot-three, 198-pounder tallied six goals and 19 assists in 37 games. The 19-year-old forfeited his NCAA eligibility after signing a contract with the Oilers in August.

Khaira was a third-round draft pick by the Oilers in the 2012 NHL draft after the Surrey native spent two seasons with the Spruce Kings in the B.C. Hockey League, scoring 82 goals and 121 points in 112 games.
