That's how the Northern Capitals opened their B.C. Hockey Female Midget triple-A season on the weekend.
The Capitals earned five out of a possible six points against the Kootenay Wild at the league showcase in Surrey.
The Capitals doubled the Wild with identical scores of 4-2 on Friday and Saturday, but rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 tie in Game 3 Sunday.
On Sunday, the Wild skated out to a two-goal lead by the 18-minute mark of the first period.
That is until Myah Bowal flew down the ice and rifled a shot over the goalie on the short side to cut Kootenay's lead in half.
The Capitals scored the equalizer late in the third period at the 1:22 mark when the Wild pulled their goalie. With the extra attacker, Sage Desjardins found the back of the net letting a low shot go from the slot beating Kootenay's netminder five hole. Desjardins' linemate Marissa Nichol added the assist.
On Saturday, the Capitals outshot the Wild 51-14 with Kootenay goalie Catalina Hartland keeping the score close.
Nichol netted the first goal at the 13:54 mark (Desjardins chipped in the assist) while Hunter Mosher scored the second goal three minutes later with an assist from Katie Young.
Kootenay closed the gap to make it 2-1, but not before Sydney Jordan scored with 14 seconds left in the first period, with an assist from Young.
Hartland faced 29 shots from the Capitals in a scoreless second period.
Young recorded her first goal in the league at the 18:10 minute mark of the third period, with rookie McKenzie Muir chipping in with the assist. The Wild answered back quickly but it wasn't enough.
Capitals netminder Tamara Williams recorded her first win in the league.
The Wild opened scoring with a goal at the 11:05 mark of the first period on the power play in Friday's opener.
Taylor Beck tucked in a rebound and recorded her first-ever goal as a Capital with an assist from Mosher.
The Capitals dominated the second period outshooting the Wild 19-3.
Desjardins and Victoria Byer set up Bowal for her first-ever goals in the league at the 15:04 mark.
In the third, Desjardins and Mosher found the back of the net and the Capitals secured their first win of the season.
The Capitals travel to Vernon this weekend to face off against the Lakers who suffered a pair of losses and a tie to the Vancouver Comets on the weekend.
