Jessa Brewer is following a path carved in ice by her Northern Capitals teammate Rachel Loewen - one that leads directly to an NCAA Division 1 college hockey future at Niagara University in Lewiston, N.Y.
The 17-year-old Brewer has committed to a scholarship to play next season with the Niagara Purple Eagles. The Northern Capitals made the announcement on Monday, a month after Loewen agreed to terms of a similar arrangement to join the Eagles in 2023-24.
Brewer has three goals and two assists in 14 games this season, coming off an eight-goal, eight-assist 2021-22 season.
Brewer, a native of Prince George, scored the only goal for her team in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Island Seals. The Caps went on to defeat the second-place Seals 2-0 on Sunday at Kin 2 to improve their third-place record to 5-8-1-0. Vancouver Island edged the Capitals 2-1 on Friday.
Loewen, the Northern Capitals captain, is in her final season playing defence for the U-18 triple-A Capitals. The 17-year-old from Williams Lake has two goals and three points in 14 games. She tallied three goals and 10 points in 29 games last season.
