Northern Capitals down Lakers on Pink in the Rink Night

The Northern Capitals and Thompson Okanagan Lakers hit the ice on Friday evening at Kin 2 for their first game of their three-game weekend series.

The Northern Capitals and Thompson Okanagan Lakers hit the ice on Friday evening at Kin 2 for their first game of their three-game weekend series.

Kiera Mulder started the scoring for the Capitals beating Lakers netminder Kristi Vassberg six minutes into the first period to put them on the board. Thompson Okanagan answered back with Sydney Hamilton putting one behind Caps goaltender Tessa Sturgeon with 9:16 left in the first frame. Capitals forward Brette Kerley broke the tie potting a goal with 13 seconds left on the clock in the first period. Brette Kerley scored a power play goal as her second tally of the game 9:34 into the second period putting the Northern Capitals up 3-1 which ended up being the final score.

The win moves the Capitals 6 points ahead of the Lakers in the standings with a record of 11-10-2-0 while Thompson Okanagan falls to 8-13-2-0 on the season.

The two teams meet again on Saturday evening with puck drop set for 6 p.m. and again Sunday morning with puck drop set for 8:30 a.m. Both games will be played at Kin 2.

The Capitals were wearing special pink jerseys on Friday evening's Pink in the Rink Night to raise awareness for breast cancer.
