Northern Capitals defender Boon, forward Armstrong named all-stars

Standout players helped Northern B.C.'s female triple-A hockey team advance to BC Elite Hockey League final

The BC Elite Hockey League announced Thursday that two players from Prince George-based Northern Capitals U-18 female triple-A hockey team have been selected as all-stars for the 2021-22 season.

Defender Ella Boon of Vanderhoof and forward Hailey Armstrong of Dawson Creek were each named to the provincial team.

Boon, 18, played 31 regular season games and had nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. She bolstered the league’s second-stingiest defence, which allowed just 69 goals in 32 games. Boon also picked up two assists in the Capitals’ five playoff games.

Armstrong, 17, scored 21 goals and had 26 assists for 47 points in 28 games and finished in a tie for second in league scoring. She also collected seven goals and three assists in five playoff games.

Coached by Mario Desjardins, the Capitals finished second in the five-team league this season with a 22-7-0-3 record. They swept the Vancouver Island Seals in a two-game semifinal series and lost to the first-place Fraser Valley Rush 2-1 in the league championship series.
