After nearly three weeks between games in the B.C. Triple-A Girls Hockey League, the Prince George-based Northern Capitals got to put on their game faces on again Friday night at Kin 1.
The Capitals took on the Fraser Valley Rush in the first of a three-game league series which resumes today and Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Coliseum. Friday's score was not available at press time.
The Capitals started the day Friday tied for third place in the league standings with the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers, each with a 3-4-2 record. The Capitals lost two of three games to the Greater Vancouver Comets the last time they hosted a league series, Oct. 22-24, which allowed the Comets to move into sole possession of first place, three points ahead of the Capitals/Lakers and two points in front of the second-place Vancouver Island Seals. The Rush (3-5-1) trailed the Capitals by three points before Friday's game.
The Capitals' four leading pointgetters were all top-10 scorers in the league heading into Friday's games. Capitals forward Sage Desjardins was leading the scoring race with seven goals and 11 points in nine games. Marissa Nichol was tied for fifth with seven points, including two goals, while Katie Young and midget rookie Myah Bowal of the Cougars were tied for 10th overall with Samantha Head of the Lakers, each with five points.
