The snow conditions will be perfect for Sunday's Nordic Winter Festival at Otway Nordic Centre.
On that day, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club's cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails will be open to the public free of charge
The festival starts with a $5 pancake breakfast Sunday from 8-11 a.m. Skiers will get the chance to race for chocolate bars starting at 10:15 a.m. (registration starts at 9:30 a.m.).
For new skiers. the club is offering 45-minute introductory ski lessons for $5 per person starting at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A marshmallow roast and game activities at the gravel pit are on from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., a one-hour snowshoe tour starts from the lodge, which should work up appetites for a $6 chili lunch from noon-3 p.m.
Aspiring biathletes can test their accuracy on the shooting range in three separate 45-minute sessions at 1, 1:45 and 2:30 p.m. The fee is $10 per person.
Free trail passes will be available at the Caledonia office at the base of Rotary Lodge.
