In a battle of the bottom-feeders of the BCHL, the Prince George Spruce Kings tried but could not find a way to down the Surrey Eagles.
The Spruce Kings fired 65 shots at Eagles goalie Justin Laforest in 60 minutes of regulation time and 10 minutes of overtime and he gave up just two goals, allowing the Eagles to leave their home rink with a 2-2 tie.
Tanner Campbell, the 18-year-old forward the Kings acquired Wednesday in a deal from West Kelowna, scored both Prince George goals, his fifth and sixth of the season, but it wasn't enough offence for the visitors.
Jaxon Joseph, in the second period, and Donovan Ott, in the third period, scored for Surrey.
Joseph opened the scoring
46 seconds into the second period and Campbell tied it on a power play just before the intermission. Ott's goal at 17:33 of the third period gave the Eagles a brief lead, but with 27 seconds left in regulation and goalie Liam McCloskey on the bench, Campbell notched the equalizer.
McCloskey made 29 saves in the Spruce Kings net.
The Spruce Kings (9-28-2-1) remained nine points ahead of the Eagles (5-31-0-2), who are last overall in the BCHL.
The Kings move on to Coquitlam, where they face the Express tonight (7 p.m. start), then travel to Chilliwack to take on the first-place Chiefs starting at 5 p.m.
