Nemethy leads northern pack at provincials

Nemethy, a Prince George Track and Field Club member who attends Vanderhoof's Nechako Valley secondary school, placed 20th in the senior boys category in a time of 21 minutes 51.34 seconds. Provincials were held Saturday in Aldergrove.

Nemethy was the north central zone's top finisher in the race, which covered 6.3 kilometres and featured 242 runners. Isaac Goodrich, a College Heights secondary school student, was the fastest Prince George athlete. He completed the course in 23:23.08. Nathan Wadhwani of Port Coquitlam's Terry Fox secondary won the race in a time of 20:32.51.

In the senior girls category, Julia Babicz of College Heights posted the best finish for Prince George and the zone. Babicz finished her 4.3km race in 18:20.12, good for 54th place out of 232 entrants. Glynis Sim of Salmon Arm was first across the finish line in 16:13.05.

In the girls team standings, College Heights placed sixth in a 26-team field. Other College Heights athletes in the race were Sydney Irving (72nd), Kaitlyn Joyce (104th), Abby Goodrich (106th), Ariel Gilbert (112th), Bianca Zemliak (136th) and Sheridan Macarthur (161st).
