Nechako Valley advances to provincial high school football semifinals

Vanderhoof team will meet Vernon Panthers in playoff Saturday at BC Place in Vancouver

The Nechako Valley Vikings are high school football provincial semifinalists.

The Vanderhoof high school team defeated the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops 34-7 Saturday afternoon in a playoff at Masich Place Stadium and will face the Vernon Panthers this Saturday at 11 a.m. at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

The winners will advance to the BC Secondary School Football Association double-A varsity championship against either Windsor or John Barsby, who will meet in the other semifinal Saturday at 1:30 p.m., also at BC Place Stadium.

Two weeks ago, the Vikings beat the College Heights Cougars 27-0 on Nov. 3 to claim their first P.G. Bowl Northern Conference title since 2011.
