Saving their best for last, both Nico Myatovic and Alexander Ochitwa's three-goal offensive outbursts helped propel the Cariboo Cougars on their way to a 7-3 win over the North Island Silvertips on Sunday morning to close out their Major Midget AAA regular season. It was the first hat tricks of their BCMML careers for the pair.
Nico Myatovic's three goals all came at even stregth while Alexander Ochitwa took advantage of the extra attacker scoring all three of his goal on the power play. Devan Minard rounded out the scoring for the Cougars.
In net for the Cougars was Landon Hatton, an affiliated player fromthe Fort St. John AA Trackers. It was Hatton's first ever start at the Major Midget level and he earned the win turning aside 21 of the 24 shots he faced while Evan May got the start in between the pipes for the Silvertips and had a busy night as he stopped 34 of the 42 shots he faced.
Ochitwa's five-points on the night gives him 23 goals and 31 assists for 54 points on the season as the Cats leading point-scorer.
The Cougars close out their season with a bye weekend sitting at a record of 27-10-2-1 on the season, good enough for 57 points, one point ahead of the Vancouver North East Chiefs who will face the league leading Okanagan Rockets next weekend in the two remaining games of the BCMML regular season. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds sit two points ahead of the Cougars in the standings at 59 points. Two wins and the Chiefs leapfrog the Cougars and Thunderbirds in the standings, while a pair of Chiefs losses will see the Cougars host the Chiefs at home in Kin 1.
