The rain came with persistent fury but it did not prevent a group of Prince George Track and Field Club runners from making an impact on the Canadian cross-country championships Saturday at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver.
Geoff Martinson, 27, finished 13th overall in the senior men's 10-kilometre race, covering the muddy course in 33 minutes one second, just 88 seconds off the winning pace of 31:38 of Lucas Bruchet of Vancouver. Nick Mclean, a 21-year-od from Quesnel, was 54th in 38:05.
Martinson's father Brian placed fourth in the master men's 55-60-year-old category, completing an 8 km course in 33:31. Brian Nemethy of Vanderhoof was sixth in the men's 50-54 category 8 km race, finishing in 30:43.
In the senior women's 7 km race, Bevin Kennelly of Quesnel, a former PGTFC member, placed 11th in 26:05. Emma Balazs, 18, was 39th in the junior women's 5 km race, stopping the clock in 19:24. Sixteen-year-old Alexander Nemethy of Vanderhoof ended up 56th in the junior men's 5 km race in 19:24.
