This weekend's Prince George Barracudas Medical Moose Meet is a last-chance provincial qualifier for 287 club swimmers entered in the three-day event.

The 50-metre pool at the Aquatic Centre will be busy place as swimmers try to achieve times that will qualify them for the B.C. double-A championships in Victoria, June 20-22, and the triple-A provincial meet July 3-6, also in Victoria.

As well as the host Barracudas, the meet includes clubs from Quesnel, Chetwynd, Fort St. John, Kitimat, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Kamloops and Grande Prairie, Alta.

"We'll have about 50 swimmers than we normally have for this meet," said Barracudas coach Jason Smith. "This is their last opportunity to qualify for provincials."

Racing starts at 5:30 p.m. tonight and resumes at 9:10 a.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Former Barracuda Danica Ludlow, who now lives in Victoria, has qualified for Canada's junior team for the Junior Pan Pacific championships in Kihei, Hawaii, Aug. 27-31.

At last weekend's Canadian trials in Victoria, Ludlow swam a personal-best time of 2:03.20, finishing 12th overall in the 200-metre freestyle event. She was also 12th overall in the 800m freestyle in 4:20.38, also a personal best.

Ludlow now trains with the High Performance Centre in Victoria and plans to attend the University of Victoria to study kinesiology beginning next fall.
