Minor Midget Cougars split weekend series with Thompson Blazers

The Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars hosted the visiting Thompson Minor Midget Blazers with a pair of weekend games on Saturday and Sunday.

The Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars hosted the visiting Thompson Minor Midget Blazers with a pair of weekend games on Saturday and Sunday. Due to a figure skating competition taking place this weekend at Kin 1 and 2, Saturday's game was played at CN Centre, while Sunday morning's match-up took place at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Saturday afternoon's game saw the Cougars earn the win over the Blazers by a score of 3-2. Brady McIsaac scored a pair in the win with Amar Powar scoring Cariboo's other goal. Matthew Johnston and Aidan Lindblad were the goal scorers for Thompson. Cariboo goaltender Tysen Smith made 25 stops on 27 shots on goal in the win while Blazers netminder Brendan Smith made 27 stops on 30 shots on goal.

Sunday morning's game saw the Blazers come out on top earning the 5-3 win over Cariboo. Zakery Anderson potted two markers with Reid Gartrell, Kieran Maloney, and Matthew Johnston rounding out the scoring for Thompson. Brady McIsaac, Amar Powar, and Chase Pacheco scored for Cariboo. Blazers goaltender Manjot Panghli stopped 21 pucks on 24 shots while Cariboo netminder Jasper Tait has a busy morning between the pipes turning aside 42 of the 47 shots he faced.

The Cougars now sit with a record of 17-4-1-0 giving them 35 points on the season, sitting 4 points back of the league leading Okanagan Minor Midget Rockets.

Next up to Cariboo is a pair of weekend games on January 25 and 26 in Richmond against the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
