Minor Midget Cougars advance to next round with pair of weekend wins

Fresh off a 9-2 win on Friday night in the first game of the best-of three series against the North Island Silvertips, the Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars punched their ticket to the next round of the B.C.

Fresh off a 9-2 win on Friday night in the first game of the best-of three series against the North Island Silvertips, the Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars punched their ticket to the next round of the B.C. Minor Midget League playoffs after defeating the Silvertips by a score of 10-2 on Saturday at Kin 2 in the second game of their best-of-three series.

The first period saw Maxwell Sanford, Linden Makow, and Tristan Granter score for the Cats.

In the second period Brady McIsaac scored for the Cougars with Drayden Doiron and Dylan McCormick scoring for the Silvertips.

Scoring in the third period was all Cariboo with Linden Makow scoring twice more to complete the hat trick and Brady McIsaac potting his second goal of the game. Dawson Slaney, Decker Mujcin, and Brett Barwise rounded out the scoring for the Cougars.

Jasper Tait started in net for the Cats and stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced. Jacob Hebert got the nod in between the pipes for the Silvertips and stopped 24 of the 34 shots he faced.

The Cougars will now face the Thompson Blazers in the next round with the first game of the series taking place on Friday, March 13 with puck drop set for 6:30 p.m. Game two of the series will take place on Saturday, March 14, with puck drop set for 3:30 p.m. Game three, if needed, is set for Sunday, March 15 with a 1:00 p.m. puck drop. All three games are scheduled to be played at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena due to the upcoming Women's World Curling Championship taking place at CN Centre.
