Nick Minerva scored 2:03 into the second overtime period to give the Surrey Eagles a 2-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings Thursday night in Surrey.
The 20-year-old from New Brunswick, N.J., has been a regular producer of offence for the Eagles since joining the team from the Fort Frances (Ont.) Lakers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Minerva's goal was his fourth this season and 19th point in 21 B.C. Hockey League games.
The Kings struck first, 5:23 into the game. Chong Lee collected his seventh of the season with assists to Parker Colley and Travis Schneider, The Eagles tied it with a power-play goal from Darius Davidson, his 12th goal this season, 11:43 into the first period.
Tavin Grant (2-4-0) made 47 saves in the Kings nets as they were outshot 49-34. Eagles goalie Michael Botiz improved his record to 7-9-0.
Prince George went 0-for-4 of the power play while Surrey ended up 1-for-3.
The Spruce Kings (9-10-1-2, third in Mainland Division) wrap up their roadtrip tonight (7 p.m.) against the Coquitlam Express (6-14-0-2, sixth in Mainland).
