The Prince George Coast Inn of the North Midget Tier 1 Cougars turned the Kamloops Thanksgiving International Classic Midget Tier 1 tournament into a turkeyshoot this weekend.

The Cougars were undefeated in the tournament, which saw 10 of the top boys' midget hockey teams from B.C. and Washington state compete.

"It's a great way to start a season," Cougars team manager Marcel Profeit said. "We had every single player contribute. Each game different kids came to the top and were the star of the game."

A dozen of the 19 boys on the team posted a goal in six games, Profeit said. Prince George took on the home team in a nail-biter final game on Monday.

"The final against Kamloops was the toughest game. That was the sixth game... they had to dig really deep," Profeit said. "It was one-one going into the third. We got a couple quick goals going into the third and everyone relaxed a bit. We were able to hang on to win it."

The Cougars topped Kamloops 5-1 in the final. In round-robin play they defeated Kelowna 7-3, Ridge Meadows 10-2, Abbotsford 6-3 and shut out Spokane four to nothing.

In the semifinal the Cougars faced off against Chilliwack, but marked up a 4-1 victory.

"The boys are really confident right now. It'll be a job for the coaching staff to keep them down to earth," Profeit said. "But we have a really good group of boys that are working together towards the ultimate goal, which is to do well in provincials. If we keep the work ethic up, we'll get there."
