The Coast Inn of the North midget Tier 1 Cougars went south to Penticton for a three-game hockey test, and aced it.
The Cougars won two of three games against teams from the Okanagan Hockey Academy in their final tuneup before they travel to Courtenay-Comox for the provincial tournament, starting next Sunday.
Backed by the goaltending of Jake Sweet, the Cougars got started Friday with an 8-2 win over the OHA elite 15s, made up of the top 15-year-old players. With Jamie Ferguson in net, the Cougars lost Saturday 5-2 to the OHA midget prep team and ended their OHA tour Sunday with a 9-2 win over the midget varsity team.
In that game, Myles Matilla, Devin Sutton, Mitch Truefitt and Derian Long each scored two goals and Markus Plamondon fired a single for Prince George. Sweet and Ferguson split the Cougars' netminding duties.
Coached by Rob Millar, the Cougars finished the season with an impressive 40-8-4 record and won the OMAHA (Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association) Tier 1 midget rep team title.
The Cougars won a tournament in Edmonton in early February and placed third at the Richmond International tournament over Christmas.
