Brett Mennear piled up eight points in two games. With stats like those, the captain of the Prince George Spruce Kings was an easy choice for player-of-the-week recognition in the B.C. Hockey League.
Mennear, a 20-year-old forward, notched three goals and an assist in an 8-0 Friday win against the visiting Coquitlam Express. Then, on Saturday, he added four helpers in a 6-3 victory against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. He was chosen first star in both games.
Mennear is the first member of the Kings to win player of the week this season.
The Spruce Kings will be back on home ice on Thursday for a game against the Chilliwack Chiefs. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
The Chiefs (18-7-4-0) will host the Express tonight and then board the bus for the ride to Prince George. Chilliwack is currently second in the Mainland Division and the Spruce Kings (14-10-1-2) are third.
