The Medicine Hat Tigers won the WHL draft lottery Thursday and will have the pick of the litter in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Tigers will go first in the order to select players, followed by Tri-City, Victoria, Calgary, Swift Current, Regina, Vancouver and Spokane, before the Prince George Cougars get their turn, selecting ninth in the order.

The six non-playoff teams all had a shot at locking up the No. 1 pick but the lottery odds favoured the Tigers, who finished last overall in the WHL with an 11-53-3-1 record.

The second and subsequent rounds of the draft are based solely on regular-season finishes in inverse order from worst to first. Prince George will pick sixth in all but the first round.

The draft will be held on Thursday, May 19 and first-round coverage will be available on WHL Live.

The Edmonton Oil Kings have the first overall pick in the U.S. Priority Draft, Wednesday, May. 18. All 22 teams had equal opportunity to win the right to have the first choice of available players from the Western United States. The draft is for two rounds and Edmonton will chose last (44th) in the second round.

The Cougars will have the 16th and 29th picks in the U.S. draft.
