Matyas quick in Victoria

Zach Matyas was in fast-forward mode at the Victoria International Track Classic.

At the event, held Tuesday, the 18-year-old member of the Prince George Track and Field Club competed in the national development category and placed fifth in the 800-metre run. Matyas's time of one minute 59.58 seconds placed him just ahead of former PGTFC coach Mike Butler (2:00.37) in the eight-athlete field. Max Trummer was first across the line with a clocking of 1:54.69.

Also in the national development category, PGTFC graduate Emma Balazs finished eighth out of 11 in the women's 1,500m run. The 19-year-old Balazs, now with the University of Idaho Vandals, posted a time of 4:42.98. Sarah Inglis won the race in 4:20.11.
