Masich works his last meet

He was also there for the last time.

Anyone who has attended a track and field meet at the local stadium -- which opened as Massey Place in 1990 and was re-named Masich Place in 2005 -- will have seen Masich in the location and pose described above. But, Saturday's Sub Zero meet was the last one he will oversee in his role as president of the Prince George Track and Field Club.

That fact put a smile on his face. Others couldn't help but frown.

"I'm happy," said the 73-year-old Masich, who founded the PGTFC in 1973 and will step down as its leader when the club holds its annual general meeting on May 15. "Lots of people have come by that have been in the track club and have said 'It's nice to hear you're taking a break.'"
