Bill Masich, son of Prince George Track and Field Club founder Tom Masich, has been named the club's head coach for the 2014 season.
"Track and field is in my blood," said Bill Masich, who fills a job that was done loosely by club president Brian Martinson last season. "With my children now becoming more active in the club, playing a larger role just made sense. The club has a very strong volunteer coaching staff and I look forward to working with them to grow the club's Track Rascals program while helping our competitive athletes reach their goals."
The club's home base is Masich Place Stadium. Formerly Massey Place Stadium, it was renamed in Tom Masich's honour in October 2005.
Tom Masich founded the club in 1973.
Bill Masich previously served as the club's head coach from 1994 to 2003. He has also been a track and field head coach at Prince George secondary school and College Heights secondary school and was the PGTFC's jumps coach last season.
"I enjoy working with all levels of athletes," he said. "Many times, the greatest successes come from those athletes who do not achieve provincial or national accolades but grow into strong and confident individuals who develop a lifelong dedication for sport and fitness."
During his coaching career, Bill Masich has helped many athletes attain athletics scholarships in Canada and the United States.
"Bill brings with him a wealth of experience that will help us develop our program and give our athletes advanced training that will allow them to excel," said Martinson. "Bill, along with our sprint and hurdle coach Cathy Johnson, will be of immense value in building on that tradition."
Main registration for the PGTFC's outdoor season happens Saturday and Sunday at Pine Centre Mall.
