The 2009 World Baseball Challenge gave Prince George fans a glimpse of future professionals in action and 12 of the 14 drafted players suited up for Team U.S.A.

But there was some Canadian content added Wednesday when two members of the UBC Thunderbirds were picked in the draft.

Team Canada shortstop Sammie Starr of Toronto went to the Baltimore Orioles (1,018th overall in the 34th round) and lefthanded pitcher Mark Hardy of Campbell River was picked by the San Diego Padres (1,294th overall, 43rd round). Starr was voted the top shortstop at the 2009 WBC.

The WBC will return to Prince George in the July 14-24, 2011.
