Danica Ludlow kept up with the best in Canada.
Ludlow, a 15-year-old who trains with the Prince George Barracudas swim club, qualified for three finals at the Canadian Senior National Championships in Edmonton. At the meet, which concluded on Sunday, she swam in the final of three freestyle events and posted a top placing of fourth in the 400-metre distance. Her clocking of four minutes 20.96 seconds in that race stood as a new Barracudas record.
Ludlow also finished fifth in the 1,500m freestyle (personal-best time and new club record of 17:22.81) and was seventh in the 800m freestyle (9:02.97).
In her other races, Ludlow was 18th in the 200m freestyle (2:06.71) and 39th in the 100m freestyle (new club record of 59.17).
Katie Mann, Haley Black and Sterling King were also representing the Barracudas in national waters.
Mann, who swims on scholarship at the University of New Hampshire, established new Barracudas standards in all four of her swims. Her best result was a 10th-place showing in the 200m breaststroke, where she touched the wall in 2:37.73. Mann was also 15th in the 200m individual medley (new PB of 2:21.14) and 17th in both the 100m breaststroke (1:13.83) and 400m IM (5:03.04).
Black, 15, was at her best in the 200m backstroke. In that race, she placed 12th in a club-record time of 2:18.91. In her other swims, she was 13th in the 200m butterfly (2:20.29), 23rd in the 400m IM (5:06.10), 28th in the 50m butterfly (29.14), 29th in the 100m backstroke (1:06.18) and 29th in the 50m backstroke (31.18).
King, 16, posted his top result in the 1,500m freestyle, where he was 14th in a clocking of 16:23.24. King was also 23rd in the 200m freestyle (1:55.45), 24th in the 400m IM (4:43.19), 26th in the 400m freestyle (4:07.24) and 43rd in the 200m butterfly (2:16.38).
Ludlow, Mann and Black are now in Calgary for the Canadian Age Group Championships. Harrison Lagzdin, Josiah Binnema, Sava Yungman, Patricia Fortier, Jessa Wing, Julie Wing, Bailey Hardy, Samantha Bleackley, Hannah Esopenko and Ethan Godden are also swimming for the Barracudas at the long course event.
n At the BC Summer Games, which ended last weekend in Surrey, eight members of the Barracudas combined for 48 personal-best times. Kathryn Chrobot, Jordan Ozcan, Adrian Lamb, Samantha Agliani, Kayla Korolek, Emma Williams, Morgan Norn and Brianna Pallot were the Barracudas athletes at the Games. Chrobot came home with two gold medals and a silver, while Ozcan picked up a bronze. Chrobot, Ozcan and Lamb also achieved short course age group national times in various disciplines.
