Shelby Jansen is the proud new owner of a provincial record.
Jansen, a 13-year-old who trains with the Prince George Track and Field Club, set the new B.C. standard for her age group in the 300-metre run on the weekend. She was in her shoes for the B.C. Junior Development Championships in Richmond and zipped from start to finish in 43.29 seconds. Jansen's effort, of course, earned her a gold medal.
In her other races, Jansen placed third in the 200m run (27.31 seconds) and fourth in the 100m dash (13.37 seconds).
The championships were also memorable for PGTFC athlete Lauren Matheson. The 13-year-old Matheson -- with a clocking of 27.16 seconds -- was golden in the 200m run and finished third in the 100m dash (13.36 seconds).
Another local, 12-year-old Lindsay King, powered her way to a bronze medal in the hammer throw.
Tanner Matheson, Lucas Brownson and Taro Nakahara also represented the PGTFC at the meet.
