Pateman, Sprague win hockey awards
Prince George products Ward Pateman and Trevor Sprague were recognized with awards at the B.C. Hockey Annual Congress, held on the weekend in Sun Peaks.
Pateman, who now resides in Kelowna, was named official of the year. He worked about 35 games in the Western Hockey League as a referee this past season and also saw regular duty in the B.C. Hockey League. Pateman was chosen as an official for the recent Royal Bank Cup national junior A championship in Chilliwack and also made his professional debut in the American Hockey League in March when he was in uniform for a game between the host Toronto Marlies and the Belleville Senators.
Sprague, general manager of the Cariboo Cougars of the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League, came home with an award for the role he has played in developing the Male Program of Excellence.
Pisces make waves in Mackenzie
Nobody could keep up with Finn Boyle.
Boyle, who trains with the Prince George Pisces swim club, won all his heats and races at a weekend meet in Mackenzie and, as a result, claimed the Division 2 boys aggregate title. Another Pisces swimmer, Abby Spencer, nabbed the Division 3 girls aggregate crown after she placed first in all her races. In other local results, Alex Cheang was third overall in Division 4 boys and Brooklyn Fochler took third overall in Division 4 girls.
The Pisces will be back in the water June 23-24 in Quesnel and then July 7-8 in Fort St. John.
