For most of the 30,000 people who compete in the Boston Marathon, there is one common goal.
They want to finish the race.
For those who braved the 5 C cold, howling 50 kilometre-per-hour headwinds and steady rain which at times became torrential, Monday's monsoon altered that ambition.
The goal was to get through all that without hypothermia.
Three Prince George runners accomplished the mission and all three crossed the finish line in downtown Boston as planned.
Blake Mason, 38, wanted to break the three-hour barrier and he did that in the 122nd annual race, covering the 42.195-kilometre course in two hours 58 minutes four seconds. He placed 1,181st in his 18-39 age class and was 1,405th overall.
Denny Straussfogel, 61, completed his sixth Boston Marathon in 4:05:32. He was 447th in his 60-64 age class and 10,710th overall in a race which drew 26,948 runners.
One other Prince George runner, Kathryn Lecesse, 37, finished the race in 4:09. Details of Lecesse's exact race time and order of finish were not available on the race tracker website.
