Patti Knezevic opened provincials with a win, while Tracey Jones suffered a loss against the four-time defending champion.
In Monday's first draw at the B.C. Scotties Tournament of Hearts women's provincial curling championship, being played at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, Knezevic defeated Shawna Jensen of Victoria 9-4 and Jones fell 7-2 to Kelowna's Kelly Scott.
Knezevic led Jensen 3-2 after four ends and broke the game open when she scored three in the fifth. The teams traded single points in the sixth, seventh and eighth ends and Knezevic picked up two in the ninth to clinch the victory.
Jones and Scott were scoreless after the first end and Scott, with the hammer, scored one in the second. She then stole single points in the third, fourth and fifth ends. Jones battled back with two in the sixth end. The teams blanked the seventh end and Scott put the game away when she added three to her total in the eighth.
In other results from the first draw, Allison MacInnes of Abbotsford beat Sarah Wark of Victoria 6-4 when she stole two points in the 10th end, Karla Thompson of Kamloops downed Marla Mallett of Cloverdale 8-6 and Kesa Van Osch of Victoria edged Amy Gibson of Vancouver 6-5 thanks to a steal of one in the 10th.
In today's second draw, set for 6:30 p.m., Knezevic will meet Thompson and Jones will play Mallett. Other games will see Scott take on MacInnes, Jensen meet Van Osch and Wark play Gibson.
