JUDO
Prince George judokas won five gold medals and two silver at the Saskatchewan Open in Regina on Saturday.
The athletes from the Prince George Judo Club and the Hart Judo Club were competing as part of Team B.C.
Lavanna Lass from the Hart Judo Club won gold in both of her girls U21 and senior division in the 63 kg class.
Four athletes from the Prince George Judo Club also stood on the podium.
Taylor Schaus won gold in boys U16 in the 42 kg class, while Kristen Yawney won gold in her 70 kg class in the U18 and U21 divisions.
Ryan Russell earned silver in the 50 kg class and Branden Edwards won silver in the 55 kg class.
Senseis Aline Strasdin from the PGJC and Bruce Kamstra from the Hart Judo Club were also in Regina as part of Team B.C.
RINGETTE
The All Rhodes Pilot Service - Hart Modular Homes U14 ringette team were edged 7-6 by host Hinton, Alta. at a tournament last weekend.
The Prince George team went undefeated in the round-robin portion, with wins over Spruce Grove (8-4), St. Albert (10-5), and Hinton (7-5).
Their 3-0 record qualified them for the final where they lost to the host team.
Keira Meroniuk led the Prince George squad with 12 goals, followed by Rebecca Landrey with 11, and Will deReau with a pair. Abby Lank, Jennifer ONeil, Austin Campbell and Emily Scully tallied singles. Jenna Gray, Tashina Wilmot, Hanna Mckinley and Martina Spooner rounded out the squad.
