Local make their mark at B.C. Games

In the medal contest, Sunday in Vernon, Cariboo North-East beat Thompson-Okanagan 3-1. Prince George team members were Madison Fjellstrom, Jayden Malgunas, Sydney Irving, Jocelyn Forrest, Kiana Wilkinson, Carla Johnston, Carla Goodwin, Sabrina Knoop, Megan Hickey and Avery Quiring.

Earlier in the tournament, the Zone 8 girls beat Vancouver Island-Central Coast 4-0, Kootenay 4-0 and lost 6-3 to Fraser Valley.

The Zone 8 girls ringette team, featured in The Citizen last week, placed sixth out of eight teams.

In individual competition, members of Prince George's Silvertip Archers were on target at the Games. Tony Procter shot his way to two gold medals (boys two-day aggregate compound and match play compound), while Natalya Sarrazin (girls two-day aggregate barebow and match play barebow) and Cameron Guimond (boys two-day aggregate recurve) earned silver medals. Meanwhile, Seth Logan (boys match play barebow and two-day aggregate barebow) and Jennifer Stern (girls match play compound) were awarded bronze medals.

In gymnastics, Alia Wilson posted the top individual result among Prince George athletes at the Games. In Level 3 competition, she placed seventh on the uneven bars. Wilson also tied for 10th on floor exercise, was 18th on balance beam and tied for 20th on vault. Overall, she placed 13th, again the best finish for a local gymnast.
