It's a long way to go from Prince George to Regina but the trip was well worth the effort for a group of 10 Prince George judokas.

They came home loaded with hardware from the Saskatchewan Open judo tournament Saturday, part of a 55-medal haul for the 44 athletes who formed Team B.C.

Koen Heitman of the Hart Judo Academy won gold in his under-16 men's minus-50 kilogram category and also placed fifth in the U-18 event, while Taylor Schaus of the Prince George Judo Club won gold in the U-21 men's minus-60 kg division.

In other Hart Academy results, Asher Young won silver in the U-14 minus-42 kg and U-16 minus-42 kg classes, while his brothers Lochlan (U-16, minus-66 kg) and Maxwell (U-21 minus-55 kg) won bronze in their respective categories.

Also climbing to the medal podium for the Prince George club were Fallon Jones (silver, U-14 minus-48 kg); Tami Goto (silver U-16 and silver U-16 minus-42 kg); and Branden Edwards (silver U-21 minus-66 kg).

Sydney Edgson (U-16 minus-57 kg) and Ryan Russell (U-18 minus-66 kg), both of the PGJC, placed fifth in their categories.

They will now prepare for their next tournament set for Feb. 18 in Abbotsford.
