When a pitcher tosses a perfect game in baseball, it means he hasn't given up any hits, walks or runs or allowed anyone to reach base in nine innings.
In five-pin bowling, a perfect game is 12 strikes in a row. And it's rare.
It's exactly what Prince George's Iain MacRitchie did when he rolled a perfect game, scoring 450 points at the B.C. Open provincial championships on Easter weekend in Langley.
MacRitchie competed in both the men's singles and team events for Zone 8, comprised mostly of Prince George bowlers from Nechako Lanes and Black Diamond Lanes who were vying for berths in the national championships next month in Calgary.
The B.C. Open is the most prestigious tournament five-pin bowling has and Zone 8 showed well.
"A perfect game? You just don't see it," said coach Ed Stepski. "Iain also bowled a 410 game in the team event, the scores were unbelievable."
Don Campbell from Vancouver Island also bowled a 401 game in men's singles.
For scoring an average of 299.750, MacRitchie, 28, was named the top all-star. He was 14 points clear of his next competitor, Gary Kosciuk from Zone 4.
MacRitchie, Jim Montgomery, Chito Tescon, Jason Kennedy and Aaron Vitaliano made up the Zone 8 men's team.
They finished fifth overall in the team event, with a 252 average.
The Zone 8 women's team was comprised of Salina Kennedy, Dawn Gunderson, Deanna Montgomery, Morgan Burdoch from Fort St. John and two bowlers from the Fraser Valley. They finished fourth overall, scoring a 211 average.
Burdoch was named the fourth all-star, with an average of 246.500.
