Local biathletes make national podium

Local biathletes Cole Bender, Emily Dickson and Sarah Beaudry all found their way to the medal podium Thursday at the Canadian championships in Charlo, N.B.

Bender, 16, a native of Burns Lake, captured gold in the senior boys pursuit, after also winning the sprint on Wednesday. He covered the 7.5 km pursuit course in 29:04.2

Dickson, 20, also of Burns Lake, a silver medalist in the junior women's sprint, was third in Thursday's 12.5 km pursuit. Megan Bankes of Calgary set the winning pace of 33:31.3, 2:28 ahead of silver medalist Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Yukon. Dickson was 2:47.8 behind Bankes.

Beaudry, a 24-year-old Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member who competed in the Olympics in Pyeongchang, took bronze in the women's 12.5 km pursuit, finishing 3:42.4 behind the gold medal pace of Rosanna Crawford of Canmore (31:50.8). Julia Ransom of Kelowna took silver, 2:17.7 behind.

In the senior men's 12.5 km pursuit, Scott Gow took gold in 35:54.8, 1:10.5 ahead of silver medalist Macx Davies of Canmore and 1:27.2 in front of bronze medalist Christian Gow. Jasper McKenzie of Prince George was 13th, 7:48.9 behind.

In other Caledonia results, Danika Fiala of Prince George placed 21st in the senior girls pursuit.
