Local athletes make mark at provincials

Gaiesky,a junior from D.P. Todd secondary school, hurdled his way to a bronze medal in the 400m event at the B.C. high school track and field championships in Langley and also came home with a fourth-place result in the 400m run.

In other results, Amanda Heinze of Prince George secondary school just missed a medal, finishing fourth in the Grade 8 girls javelin. IN other PGSS results, Lindsay King was eighth in the junior girls 400m, Jeremy Matt was eighth in the senior 400m hurdles and Shelby Jansen placed seventh in the junior girls 200m final.

Hunter Floris of Nechako Valley in Vanderhoof was a seventh-place finisher in the Grade 8 girls shot put; senior runner Alexander Nemethy went the distance to finish seventh in the 3,00m and eighth in the 2,000m steeplechase; Emma Floris was eighth in the junior girls 200m; and Mathew Ebert was eighth in the junior boys discus.

Cole Dinsdale of Correlieu in Quesnel placed sixth in the 1,500m steeplechase.

The Prince George contingent was coached in Langley by zone representative Brian Nemethy of Nechako Valley and coaches Eric Wolf of Dawson Creek and Marty Floris of Nechako Valley. More than 2,500 athletes from 267 schools competed in the high school meet.
