Leboe powers way to fifth at nationals

The 15-year-old member of the Prince George Track and Field Club finished fifth in the boys

under-16 hammer throw (four kilogram), reaching a distance of 38.92 metres, while competing for Team B.C. Gregory Maccarthy of Team Nova Scotia won the event with a distance of 51.48m.

Leboe also competed in the boys javelin where he finished 10th with a throw of 42.70m and in the boys discus (one kg), placing 11th with a throw of 38.37m.

Six other PGTFC athletes also took part in the Legion championship.

Ryan Gaiesky was sixth in the boys under-16 100m hurdles with a time of 14.98 seconds. Alexander Nemethy of Vanderhoof was 14th (6:24.84) in the men's 2,000m steeplechase and 18th in the men's (under-18) 3,000m run (9:32.21).

Carlee Campbell placed 12th (9.86m) in the women's triple jump. In the girls (under-16) 100m dash, Emma Floris was 17th (13.27) and Lauren Matheson was 19th (13.43). Shelby Jansen was 20th in the girls 300m dash in a time of 43.61.

Due to injury Omar Medina was unable to make the trip.

PGTFC coach Kristopher Gaiesky said it was a great learning experience to compete at a national meet for all the athletes.

He added many of them will be working to improve on their performances next year when the nationals are once again held in Langley.
