Luc Laylin scored two goals Saturday to lift the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 4-1 road win over the Merritt Centennials.
Nick Rheaume and Rowan Miller, on a third-period power play, also scored for the Spruce Kings. Davide Patella was the lone Merritt goalscorer.
Aaron Trotter stopped 13 of 14 shots in goal for Prince George to improve his season record to 14-7-0. John Hicks took the loss in between the pipes for the Centennials, making 39 saves as his team was outshot 43-14.
The Kings (21-9-3-5-0, .658 winning percentage) earned five of a possible six points on their three-game B.C. Hockey League road swing, which started with a 6-0 triumph in Merritt on Wednesday. They also earned a point Friday in a 3-2 shootout loss in West Kelowna.
The Cents dropped to 2-32-1-1-0. The Spruce Kings won all seven games in the season series with Merritt in regulation time. Prince George has gained at least a point in the past 15 games dating back to Dec. 30, when the team returned from the Christmas break.
The Spruce Kings will be back on the bus this week when they head south to Salmon Arm to play the Silverbacks, whose 28-5-2-1-0 record and .819 winning percentage is the best in the BCHL.
Next weekend, the Wenatchee Wild will visit Prince George for a two-game set at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. Friday’s game features the 2000s Night promotion and the team will pay tribute to players who suited up for the Spruce Kings from 2000-2009.
